This specially designed photography tour takes you to the heart of southern Ethiopia of the Omo valley. Ethiopia has a diverse population of indigenous peoples, most of whom live in the country’s lush southern region, in the heart of the Omo Valley where you can learn about the rites and cultural practices of these famed tribes. This a wonderful itinerary that offers visitors the extraordinary chance to travel through Ethiopia’s untouched Southern region, where you will have the opportunity to meet and learn about some of the more isolated, colorful, and enigmatic ethnic groups of this incredibly diverse region of Ethiopia. Meet immerse in Sidama region which is famous for its Coffee plantations.

Trip To South
Arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Upon arrival, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your reserved hotel. After time to refresh, take a guided city tour of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital and the third highest capital in the world. You will start the tour with a visit to the National Museum, home to one of the world’s most important paleontological exhibits in the world; ‘Lucy’. Next, you will visit Entoto Mountain, which overlooks the whole of Addis Ababa. Marvel at the panoramic views of the capital amidst the fresh breeze of the eucalyptus forests. Then visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral Church. As the final resting place of much-loved Emperor Haile Selassie, Holy Trinity Cathedral is one of the country’s most sacred places of worship. The city tour will end with an exploration of the colorful Merkato, Africa’s largest open-air market.Catch a flight from Addis Ababa to Jinka town. Upon arrival, meet your drivers and local guide and then you will be transferred to a village of the Mursi tribe. The Mursi is one of Ethiopia’s most famous tribal people and they are famous around the world for their instantly recognizable lip plates. They are pastoralists and are best known for the lip-piercing custom of their women who at the coming of age insert clay disks into incisions made in their lower lips. In addition, the Mursi is the warrior tribe of the Omo Valley. There will be an evening photo shoot in the village where we will spend the night. Overnight camping in a tent.In the morning, we will start a sunrise photo shoot for an opportunity to photograph the Mursi people’s daily life and capture fascinating portraits. In the afternoon, leave the village and drive back to Jinka and transfer to Hotel. Late in the afternoon, we will visit the Ari Tribe that lives on the hills around Jinka. The Ari people are the largest tribe in the Omo Valley and are well-known for their pottery and distinctive scarring. You will take walk through the village, learning about different aspects of their lives, including blacksmithing and distillation of the local liquor, known as Areki. Overnight, Hotel or Lodge in Jinka.Depart Jinka and head towards the village of the Karo tribe. We drive through Turmi, home of the famous Hamar tribe and center to explore the unique tribes in Omo valley. The Karo people are well known for skin scarification and ornamental painted body and face decoration. They use white chalk, black charcoal, and red and ochre earth. They are considered the masters of body painting. After setting our camp in the village, we will start the evening photo shoot. The Karo is a photogenic tribe and we will have various photographic opportunities in the village. Overnight camping in a tent.In the morning, we will start another photo shoot inside the village and along the Omo River and capture epic and fascinating group and individual portraits. There may be a chance to photograph the ceremonial dance and other cultural activities. In the afternoon, leave the Karo Village and drive towards the village of the Nyangatom Tribe. The Nyangatom tribe lives near the town of Kangate on the west side of the Omo River and further towards Kibish. The Nyangatom are specialized crocodile hunters, using harpoons from a dugout canoe. Like the Hamer Tribe, they are the friendliest and most welcoming tribal groups in Southern Ethiopia. In Nyangatom’s culture body ornaments and scarification are symbols of status and strength. In the Omo Valley, the Nyangatom have a reputation as feared warriors. We will cross the Omo River to reach the village of Nyangatom. Set our camp and then start an evening photography shoot in the village.After the morning photography, we will drive to Turmi town and transfer to accommodation. Turmi is home to the famous Hamar tribe and the center to explore other tribes in the Omo Valley. Late in the afternoon, you will be transferred to one of the villages of the Hamar tribe for an evening photo shoot of the beautiful Hamar tribe which is photogenic like all other tribes. The Hamar people are best known for their bull-jumping ceremony and to be the friendliest tribe of the Omo valley. The Hamer women are famous for their attractive ochre-colored hair braids skirts of cowrie-decorated goatskin and tight copper bracelets they are amongst the most beautiful of all south Omo Valley tribes. After finishing the evening photography you will be transferred back to Turmi.Early in the morning, depart to Omorate town to visit a village of the Dassenech tribe who settled adjacent to the Omo River. The Dassenech live in the fertile Omo river delta, close to Kenya and Lake Turkana where they hunt crocodiles. We will cross the Omo River by a local boat to reach and visit their village. Because they are semi-nomadic they live in small, lightweight huts, designed for easy movement if the village changes location. Return to Turmi and late in the afternoon, we will visit another village of the Hamar tribe to capture more attractive portraits.We will have an early morning shoot at a Hamar village. Then leave Turmi and continue driving towards Konso. En route, you will pass through the Arbore Tribe village. We stop for a while to photograph and visit their culture. The Name Arbore means ‘Land of Bulls’ and like other tribes in Omo Valley, cows, goats, and sheep are very important and valuable. The women use stunningly intricate jewelry and black cloth. Like the Hamar Tribe, the Arbore women are considered the most beautiful in the Omo Valley region. Leave the Arbore and continue drive to Konso Karat Town and transfer to Lodge.In the morning, visit the village of the Konso Tribe who are famous for their terraced hillsides, fine woven materials and the wooden totems which are used to decorate the graves. These old villages stand as a testament to the enduring adaptability of the people who have called these lands or hills home for generations. Konso is registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Then drive to Arbaminch a town located on the western escarpment of the Great Rift Valley overlooking the twin lakes of Abaya and Chamo. In the afternoon, drive to visit a Dorze village which is located on Guge Mountains and learn about their culture. The Dorze are famed for the tall beehive-like houses and weaving abilities. Finally, drive back to Arbaminch and transfer to your accommodation.This morning, we will have a boat trip on Lake Chamo to see the Nile Crocodiles, Hippos, and Birds. This boat ride takes us to the “crocodile market”, an area of the lake nicknamed as such due to the impressive crocodile population usually found there, and the local hippos. After the Boat Trip, we’ll be transferred to Arbaminch Airport for a return flight to Addis Ababa. Then you will be transferred to a hotel to prepare your luggage and get ready for your return flight back home. In the evening, farewell dinner at Ethiopian Cultural Restaurant with cultural dances from different Ethnic Groups. Finally, your driver will take you to Bole International Airport and take your flight back home. Your Ethiopian Adventure ends here.
