A stunning high-altitude plateau with several impressive volcanic plugs, sporadic little alpine lakes, and tumbling mountain streams found here. The route frequently passes through unforgiving terrain, such mountains or jungles.

Trekking Tours

Day-01 Addis Ababa to Dodola

Depart from Addis Ababa and drive towards the town of Dodola which is located in the Oromia region and an important market town known for its resources of agriculture and forest. On the way, there will be several photo stops and coffee/tea breaks. Arrive in the afternoon and transfer to the hotel. After a lunch break, finalize all the requirements, to start trekking, at the Adaba and Dodola community tourism office. Then meet the local team and prepare the necessary logistics for the trekking.

Day-02 Dodola to Wararo (3,300m)

After morning breakfast, you will drive to Changati, a place located 10kms away from the town of Dodola. This is the starting point of the Adaba Dodola Community Trekking. You will trek towards the Waharo campsite through the trail that follows the Lensho River. This first-day hike is mostly an ascent. You will traverse woodland, a treeless plateau, and finally, near Wahoro, a denser forest. As you gain elevation, you will reach a plateau covered by everlasting flowers known as Helichrysum Splendidum. Closer to Wahoro campsite the wind-protected terrain became forested again with Colobus Monkeys. Arrive at the campsite and after a short break, short trek around Waharo to visit the impressive rock formation.

Day-03 Wararo to Angafo (3,460m)

Today’s trek takes you to the next campsite called Angafo. The trekking route passes through forest or moorlands with heather and it has several ups and downs. The vegetation, between mount Tulu Gedemsa (3,640m) and Gama Hugicho (3,713m), starts being dominated by the indigenous Giant Lobelia and Thistles. This route offers diverse scenery, with some interesting plants, especially giant lobelias. Prior to reaching Angafu you will cross another forest with many Colobus monkeys.

Day-04 Angafo to Adele

The objective of today’s trek is to reach Adele campsite after a full day hike with lots of spectacular views and sceneries. On the trail, you will Cross the Hagenia and Hypericum forest, walk on the fields of lobelias and torch lilies, and pass through caves. The trail follows a mountain ridge with views to the volcano-shaped mount Kaka (4100m) and mount Honkolo (3900m) in Arsi on another side of the Adaba- Dodola plain. Before arriving at Adele campsite, you will walk through the heather moorland, Erica and Hagenia forest, and wooded pastures.

Day-05 Adele to Mololicho (3,080m)

After morning breakfast, you will start the long (18kms) but beautiful trek from Adele to Mololicho. The trail first follows a mountain valley and then a mountains ridge from where you can see down to the reservoir of Wabe Shebelle. Along the way, the indigenous Giant Lobelia and Torch Lilies are abundant.

Day-06 Mololicho to Duro (3,350m)

Start another full day trekking towards Duro campsite. The 18km trek from Mololicho to Duro covers the longest distance between the Adaba-Dodola trekking camps. The trail pass through the beautiful mountain sceneries and fields. Landscapes, huts, birds, horses, and people are the highlight of this route. Duro is the forest camp with the most impressive view and It borders bale mountain national park.

Day-07 Duro to Langano

After morning breakfast, you will hike towards Bucha Raya where you will meet your car. Then drive towards Lake Langano through the Ethiopian Rift valley. The Ethiopian Rift valley is part of the Afro-Arabian Rift system and it offers eight spectacular chains of lakes. It is home to varied bird populations, including both Savannah and water birds. Some of the lakes such as Abijata, Shalla, and Awassa are extremely important sites for resident and migrant birds. In addition to its chain of lakes, the Ethiopian section of the Rift has national parks. Arrive at Lake Langano and transfer to your Lodge which is located close to the lake. The rest of the day will be free to relax and enjoy at the lakeside. A huge number of birds and other creatures come to the lake to swim and drink. You can enjoy a swim in the lake or just relax and read your favorite book.

Day-08 Langano to Addis Ababa & Departure

Begin the day with a visit to Abijatta-Shalla Lakes Park. Besides the two lakes, the primary attractions of this national park are a number of hot springs on the northeast corner of Lake Abijatta, large numbers of flamingoes on the lake, and plenty of birds. There are also some mammals living in this park. Then start driving back to Addis Ababa via the Ethiopian rift valley. Along the way, stop at Lake Ziway which is famous for its Birdlife and Islands. After the lunch break, you will have time for shopping. Then you will be transferred to your hotel to prepare your luggage and get ready for your return flight back home. In the evening, before your international flight, farewell dinner at Ethiopian Cultural Restaurant. Finally, your driver will take you to Bole International Airport and take your flight back home. Your Ethiopian Adventure ends here
